DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Fire Department was called out to battle a large brush and debris fire early Friday morning.Â
WAND News crews saw huge flames coming from brush and tree logs at a tree service dumping area along the railroad tracks near the 700 block of N. Van Dyke Rd. around 4 a.m.Â
That section of Van Dyke is closed while firefighters work to knock back the flames. Chief Elder told WAND he expects it to reopen around 9:30 a.m.
DFD told WAND wind speeds are complicating efforts, and they anticipate crews will be on scene "for quite some time."Â
Five fire companies were called out to respond.Â
Chief Elder said an excavator was brought in to try and break apart some of the debris and limit the amount of water firefighters have to use with current drought conditions.Â
No injuries have been reported.Â
WAND is working to learn more including who the property belongs to.Â
This is a developing story.Â
