CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - 2 young teenagers have been arrested in connection with a Champaign shooting that left a 16-year-old boy dead and a 17-year-old injured Monday night.

Champaign police were called to N. McKinley Ave. and Paula Dr. at 9:31 p.m. for a shooting.

They found a 17-year-old boy with gunshot wounds to his torso. Officers were told a second victim may be in the area.

They searched and found a 16-year-old boy half a block north in the 1500 block of N. McKinley Ave. who had also been shot.

Both boys were rushed to the hospital, but the 16-year-old did not survive. The 17-year-old is in critical but stable condition.

2 Champaign teenagers have now been arrested in connection with the shooting. Police said the victims were walking in the 1500 block of N. McKinley Ave. when two people opened fire on them.

On June 18, a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested during the execution of a search warrant in the 1600 block of Cruising Lane. Two other search warrants were also executed.

The teens face multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery with a firearm. Their names will not be released, because they are juveniles.
