CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — One man has been arrested in relation to the shooting of 42-year-old Alvin J. Parker in December.

Parker was found dead by Champaign County Sheriff's deputies on Dec. 10, 2024 in northwest Champaign around the 1500 block of Dobbins Drive. 

The sheriff's office said that the investigation identified Jamal Carter of Springfield as a person of interest.

Springfield police conducted a vehicle stop in late January that produced evidence linking Carter to the shooting, according to CCSO. He was arrested by Champaign County Sheriff's deputies and U.S. marshals in Springfield Thursday on murder charges.

Carter was transported to the Champaign County Jail where he remains in custody.
