A Champaign man was arrested Wednesday on charges of armed robbery at a Rantoul grocery store. 

RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - A Champaign man was arrested Wednesday on charges of armed robbery at a Rantoul grocery store. 

The Rantoul Police Department said that it received a call of an armed robbery on Oct. 8 at Price Cutters on 1201 East Grove Avenue. 

Rantoul police were advised that someone had entered the business and stolen items.

The suspect, later identified by RPD as 25-year-old Dametrius Kellup, had reportedly flashed a gun and escaped the store when confronted by workers.

Rantoul police found Kellup just down the street, hiding behind a dumpster. Items nearby Kellup matched ones that were reported stolen during the robbery, according to Rantoul PD. 

Kellup was charged with armed robbery and is being held at the Champaign County Jail.
