DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A 38-year-old man formerly from Danville has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after a high-speed chase in 2024.Â
Phillip Mitchell pleaded guilty Sept. 25 to aggravated fleeing and eluding and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, according to the Vermilion County State's Attorney.Â
Mitchell will serve one year of mandatory supervised release following his prison sentence.Â
Danville police shared that officers tried to make a traffic stop in November 2024, but Mitchell sped off, at one point reaching 90 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone.Â
DPD chased down Mitchell, and he eventually crashed his vehicle into a garage.
Mitchell was arrested, and DPD eventually found a loaded handgun in the vehicle, after he already had prior convictions for unlawful possession of weapons.
