LINCOLN, Ill. (WAND) - Authorities in Lincoln are assuring parents and the community that local schools are safe following a series of threats made against juveniles, including threats directed at a District 27 school.

The Lincoln Police Department said they were alerted shortly after 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6, of threats made by an adult individual, which occurred off any school campus.

Following a swift investigation, officers apprehended the suspect by 10:38 p.m. the same night.

According to Lincoln PD, once the investigation concluded, District 27 staff and the assigned School Resource Officer were promptly informed about the situation. In a message released via Teacher Ease early the next morning at approximately 6:45 a.m., District 27 reassured parents that there were no further safety concerns, a determination made in collaboration with the Lincoln Police Department.

"We take the safety of our students incredibly seriously," stated a spokesperson for the Police Department. "The decision to declare schools safe is not made lightly, considering that many of us have children and family members attending these schools."
