DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur man was arrested after assaulting several hospital staff members Friday.
The Decatur Police Department told WAND News that 23-year-old Michael Fiorito was arrested on Thursday, August 20 on charges of residential arson.
According to police, Fiorito was already on pre-trial release for charges of possession of cannabis and domestic battery.
DPD said officers were not able to book Fiorito into jail because they had to take him to Decatur Memorial Hospital for treatment.
On Friday, August 21, officers were sent to DMH because Fiorito started damaging property in his hospital room and assaulting hospital staff, according to the department.
Police said nobody was severely hurt, but Fiorito did thousands of dollars worth of damage to hospital property.
According to the Macon County inmate inquiry, Fiorito will appear in court for several charges related to the arson and the incident at the hospital on Monday.
