DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A Decatur man charged with killing a man in 2023 pleaded guilty to second degree murder.
Eric Hardy, 34, will be sentenced on April 17 at the Macon County Courthouse.
Police said Hardy assaulted Marvin E. Meyer, Jr. in the 1600 block of East Wood Street on September 1, 2023. Meyer, 53, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died on the operating table during surgery.
The U.S. Marshal's Office arrested Hardy a week later in Lake County, Tennessee.
Hardy was originally charged with first degree murder and aggravated battery, but those charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
