SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — An over 90-year-old bar just south of Springfield caught fire Friday morning.

According to Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37, crews responded to a fire at the Curve Inn around 9 a.m.

Battalion Chief Bart Zaborac told WAND News that the fire and response was affected by the wind. He said most of the damage was in the bar's beer garden, but the wind drove the fire into the building, causing "substantial" interior damage.

"It's going to be a major rebuild to get the structure back open for business," Zaborac said.

Employees were in the building at the time of the fire, but everyone got out safely, according to Zaborac.

The department said the fire was considered under control just after 10 a.m.

"The guys worked hard, the conditions were a little tough with the wind, but they did a good job for the fire conditions that they had," said Zaborac.

The Curve Inn is a longstanding bar located in Southern View, a village on the south side of Springfield. The building was built in 1932, according to the business' website.
