Kerion Overstreet
DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- A man accused of trying to sexually assault a woman at a Decatur grocery store will undergo a mental evaluation to determine if he's fit to stand trial.

Decatur police arrested Kerion Overstreet, 26, on July 30. According to a sworn statement of his arrest, Overstreet approached a woman from behind at the Save-A-Lot store on East William Street and wrapped his arms around her.

The woman told Overstreet to get off of her, police said, and realized she didn't recognize him before continuing to walk through the store.

Police said surveillance footage showed Overstreet approaching the woman from behind again; this time throwing her to the ground and throwing himself on top of her.

The woman told police that Overstreet exposed his genitals while on top of her, while he began to pull down her pants and underwear.

According to the sworn statement, three other shoppers heard screams for help and came to her aid. The woman told police that she hurt her knee when she was thrown to the ground.

Police said Overstreet admitted to assaulting the woman during an interview.

Court records show that Overstreet appeared at the Macon County Courthouse on Aug. 1. He was denied pretrial release and ordered to return on August 20 for a fitness hearing.
