VILLA GROVE, Ill. (WAND) - A man in Villa Grove who was arrested for attempted murder after reportedly attacking another man with a machete has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.Â
According to Douglas County charging documents, Cristian Escobar was said to have struck another man with a machete on Nov. 19.Â
The documents stated that the man had suffered deep cuts to his arm and an injury to his head, along with "extensive" blood loss.Â
Escobar was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery.Â
In court, Escobar pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated battery. The attempted murder charge was dropped.Â
He was sentenced to two years in prison and will get credit for 168 days time served. He was also fined $3,000.Â
