URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stabbing his wife in Urbana.Â
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called out to a home on Gurth Drive around 8 p.m. on May 4, 2025.Â
When they arrived, deputies found a woman who had been stabbed "during a domestic dispute involving her husband," 51-year-old Rafael Magdaleno-Mendoza.
The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Magdaleno-Mendoza was taken into custody at the scene on preliminary charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated domestic battery.
In court, Magdaleno-Mendoza pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder.Â
He was sentenced to 15 years and will get credit for 353 days previously served.Â
