MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Mattoon woman has been arrested for aggravated arson and disorderly conduct following a pair of suspicious fires at an apartment building.
The Mattoon Police Department said that first responders were dispatched to Shelby Avenue in Mattoon July 17 for an apartment building partially on fire.
Both Mattoon PD and the Mattoon Fire Department were dispatched to the same building July 18, with it being on fire a second time.
Through the investigation, Mattoon Police identified 36-year-old Karlla Tresner of Mattoon as a suspect in the two arsons.
While trying to find Tresner, officers became concerned about her safety after Crime Stoppers tips were sent to Mattoon Police and evidence was found at her home.
Tresner was located in Charleston July 21 and later admitted to setting fire to the residence, knowing that there were people inside on both occasions. She also admitted to making false tips to officers regarding her safety.
Tresner was transported to Coles County Jail pending a detention hearing and remains in custody.
