Decatur police make arrests in threats made to Decatur-area schools

PEORIA, Ill. (WAND) - Peoria police arrested a 24-year-old man on charges of hijacking a vehicle at gunpoint during a test drive on Saturday, which led to a high-speed chase.

Tyshawn D. Britton of Peoria, faces charges of aggravated vehicle hijacking, unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and has an active warrant.

According to Peoria PD, officers were dispatched to the Autohaus of Peoria on W. Van Winkle Drive shortly after 1:30 p.m. Saturday, following a report of an armed hijacking. Upon arrival, they met with the hijacking victim, an employee of the dealership, who recounted the incident.

The employee explained that he and Britton were on a test drive in a Corvette when Britton brandished a handgun, ordered him to exit the vehicle, and then sped away in the Corvette. The employee sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Illinois State Police troopers located the Corvette and attempted to pull it over; however, Britton accelerated, initiating a chase that ended on southbound Interstate 155 near San Jose, in Logan County.

Officers apprehended Britton without further incident, and he was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
