Bloomington Officer Shooting Feb. 2025

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WAND) — A person described by Bloomington police as an "armed suspect" has been identified as a 15-year-old boy.

The coroner identified Cole L. M. Turner, of Normal, as the person killed by police on Tuesday evening. Autopsy results show he died from being shot multiple times.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, officers were called to the 700 block of Fairmont Drive around 4:45 p.m., after several witnesses reported seeing someone armed with a weapon. BPD did not specify what type of weapon Turner had.

Police said that the situation "progressed" and officers fired their guns. Turner was given aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The department has not provided information elaborating how the situation escalated.

Illinois State Police have taken over the investigation.
