NEW BERLIN, Ill. (WAND) - A 65-year-old man from Pleasant Plains was arrested for leaving a deadly hit and run crash in New Berlin. 

Illinois State Police arrested Robert W. Butcher for leaving the scene of a fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman. 

According to ISP, on March 22, an officer from the New Berlin Police Department located Maysa Davis on the side of Interstate 72 near milepost 82.5. Davis had been struck by a vehicle. She was taken to a hospital where she later died. 

After further investigation, ISP identified Butcher as the driver of the offending vehicle. On March 24, ISP officers arrested Butcher and he was transported to the Sangamon County Jail. ​

The investigation is ongoing.
