According to the Macon County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a call about a person with a machete at the P&V gas station parking lot after crashing into a vehicle.

The man ran from the officers onto U.S. Highway 51 before stealing an Macon County Sheriff's Office squad car. He then rammed into a Decatur Park Police District vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

The man got out of the car and was shot by officers after pointing a shotgun at them. The suspect was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer in the Park Police vehicle was also sent to the hospital because of the crash.

According to Illinois State Police, their criminal investigations division was requested by the Macon County Sheriff's Department to investigate an "officer involved shooting."

"During events of this magnitude and danger, it is critical that the public stays clear," the South Macon Fire Department said in a Facebook post. "We understand the curiosity, but attempting to drive through or near an active emergency scene creates unnecessary risk for both responders and civilians."

The investigation is still ongoing.
