Savoy man arrested for unlawfully possessing firearms

SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) - A Savoy man was arrested Wednesday for unlawfully possessing firearms.

Members of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant in the 100-block of Sterling Court July 9 in connection with an ongoing investigation into an aggravated battery to a child case.

Detectives found two firearms and ammunition during a search of the home.

The 28-year-old suspect, was taken into custody and arrested for aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and an outstanding arrest warrant for driving with a suspended license.

He is currently being held at Champaign County Jail pending his initial court appearance, scheduled for Friday.

This investigation remains ongoing.
