URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - An Urbana man was arrested on multiple warrants and is accused of discarding a firearm after running from police over the weekend.

The Urbana Police Department responded just after 6 p.m. Saturday along E. Harding Street to reports of threats being made. 

Police arrived and talked to the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Randy Alexander, who gave a fake name before running off. 

Urbana police saw Alexander toss something away during the chase, which was later revealed to be a handgun. 

Alexander was eventually caught and taken into custody. 

According to police, officers found that he was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including one in Cook County and a parole violation in connection with a felony murder case in Wisconsin. 

Additionally, Alexander was arrested for resisting a peace officer, obstructing justice, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and being a fugitive from justice. 

He remains in the Champaign County Jail.
