DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A Vermilion County man was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for unlawful weapon possession by a felon.
The Vermilion County State's Attorney said that Stephen Cooper, formerly of Danville, pleaded guilty to the charge Dec. 29.Â
Cooper will serve 12 months of mandatory supervised release following his prison sentence.Â
The State's Attorney stated that in October 2020, Cooper was driving a car when he crashed into a parked car and ran away.Â
Danville police arrested him soon after the crash.Â
Police had searched Cooper's car and found a gun later discovered to be owned by him.Â
