DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — A Westville man was sentenced for a fatal stabbing from 2023.
Jesse Landers, 44, was found guilty in March of stabbing John Carmean, 35.
Danville police said Carmean was able to identify Landers as the man who stabbed him, before being taken to the hospital by first responders. Carmean died Jan. 4, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
After a week-long trial, Landers was sentenced to 45 years in prison, to be served at 100%.
During the sentencing hearing, John Carmean’s father delivered a victim impact statement, saying to Landers, “You said John was your friend. He would have given you the shirt off his back.”
