SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Police say someone punched an armed robbery suspect as they tried to steal from a Dairy Queen.
Officers say an armed robbery attempt happened Wednesday at a restaurant on North Grand Avenue in Springfield. They say 44-year-old Wyman Allen acted as if he had a weapon with him and told workers to give him money before punching one of them, going over the store counter and attempting to open a register.
Police say he also tried to throw things at Dairy Queen workers.
A Dairy Queen employee ran to a Mobil gas station across the street for help. Police say someone ran over, came into the business and punched Allen in the head. Officers then arrested him after finding him on the ground inside.
Facial bleeding can be seen in Allen’s mug shot.
Allen is facing aggravated robbery and aggravated battery charges. He is in custody at the Sangamon County Jail.
