A Decatur church celebrates 100 years in the community.

East Park Baptist Church welcomed back former pastors during two services Sunday and held a celebration lunch between those services.

Before the church itself was formed, it started as a Sunday school in the late 1800s.

"Our church has endured a lot," said Senior Pastor Ryan Banman. "We started back in 1909. So our folks, at one point or another in our history, have experienced the great depression, two world wars, the cold war and then, of course, the events of this present era."

The church has about 100 members and is hosting various events throughout the year to celebrate, including a reunion for its Baptist Academy members in August, which closed in 1989.

The church is also looking to the future and plans to work more with young people and community outreach.

The actual 100 year anniversary date was Saturday.
