DECATUR, Ill -- They send care packages to soldiers protecting our freedoms overseas every year, but Decatur's Operation Enduring Support doesn't just need supplies or money. It needs addresses.
Since 2003 Decatur's OES has been sending packages to local soldiers in a completely community supported initiative.
This Christmas, organizers say they're prepared to send more than 100 care packages out with snacks, deodorant, sunscreen, even fly traps to keep local soldiers overseas as comfortable as possible.
But, Decatur's OES founder Betty Gaumer said they've only received the names of six soldiers to send the packs to.
She said, the OES needs your help to find more soldiers they can mail to overseas, because they want to send out all the packs they can.
"Donations are coming in both as the items we requested for the packages and the money," Gaumer said. "But we don't have the names. We'd give anything if people would pass the word that any soldier, sailor, marine, or whatever that's deployed through the Christmas holiday that has an APO/FPO address - get that address to us."
There's still time to donate to Decatur's Operation Enduring Support. Gaumer said they will still take donated items, supplies and monetary gifts until November 11th.
They'll continue to take addresses until Thanksgiving. You can email the OES at graceoes@comcast.net or mail them a soldier's address at Grace OES 901 North Main Street, Decatur, IL 62521.
