OREANA, Ill. (WAND) - A man was arrested and charged after deputies were called to Argenta-Oreana Elementary School Thursday for a report of someone making threats and showing a gun.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the school around 3 p.m.

Deputies said they learned a fight had happened on a bus between students, and the father of one of the students went to the school demanding the names and information of the other students involved.

When school officials refused to provide names and information, they said the father made a threatening statement and lifted his clothing revealing a pistol tucked into his waistband.

Deputies were able to locate the father at an address on Camelot Drive in Decatur. They said 33-year-old Michael Evans admitted that he made the threatening statements to school employees but denied brandishing the gun.

Deputies located a gun on Evans. He was taken into custody at 4:22 p.m. and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon on School Property and Aggravated Assault.

Evans possess a valid FOID card and Concealed Carry License. He is currently being held at the Macon County Jail pending an adult detention hearing.

The Argenta-Oreana School District was not placed on precautionary lockdown because the incident occurred after school hours when students were already gone for the day.

WAND News has contacted the district about the incident, but haven't yet received a response.
