SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - District 186 issued a statement after two separate lunchroom fights and an unrelated medical emergency caused confusion over whether Lanphier High School was put on hard lockdown Thursday.
The District said an ambulance and fire truck were called to the school after a student suffered a medical emergency.
They said that emergency was unrelated to two separate fights that happened over the lunch hour at the high school.
During the fight, security and teachers responded to deescalate the situation. The District said a teacher pressed their rapid response button on their Centegix badge multiple times, signaling a hard lockdown. That was quickly cleared because the situation was under control, the District said.
"Springfield Police responded to LHS based on the hard lock down that was initiated. They assessed the situation and deemed it safe within minutes and agreed with lifting the hard lockdown. There were no knives, there was no student injury due to a weapon as was reported on social media. Please help us stop these rumors immediately," the District said.
Students and staff are continuing the day as normal at Lanphier High School.
