CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - Chatham police are warning residents about a dangerous trend teenagers are participating in called the "Door-Kicking Challenge."
The social media video trend has teenagers record themselves aggressively kicking a homeowner's door late at night and running away to mimic a home invasion.
The only purpose is to capture the resident's reaction and post it online.
"Friends, it appears this dangerous trend is picking back up again in communities around Chatham. It should be noted, we have also taken reports of this trend in Chatham in the past," the police department posted.
The police department said this is a dangerous trend for both homeowners and any teenagers participating, with the potential for it to lead to criminal charges or potentially violent interactions.
"We don’t even want to think about what could potentially happen if a homeowner arms themselves when this prank happens, not realizing the entire thing was intended as a joke," the department said.
Police urged parents to talk to their kids about this trend and the dangers it poses.
