DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Public School District is investigating   reports of bed bugs found at Hope Academy.

The district has been made aware of the problem and says it is taking preventative measures to resolve the issue.

The district released the following statement:

"District administration was made aware of a situation involving bed bugs at one of our schools. Identifying the exact source of bed bugs and pinpointing how it was brought into the school is difficult. Our Buildings & Grounds team is proactively inspecting and thoroughly cleaning all classrooms and learning spaces to ensure the safety and comfort of our students and staff. Finding a bed bug on a child's belongings does not indicate an infestation in either the school or at a home. We urge parents to regularly check their child’s items, as bed bugs can easily spread through personal belongings and if there are any health concerns, parents should consult their doctor."
