SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Springfield Public Schools District 186 Board of Education is seeking community feedback amid searching for the district's next superintendent.
This comes after current superintendent Jennifer Gill announced her retirement in August.
The board is asking for input from staff, parents and community members to help identify what traits are most important for the next leader.
An anonymous online survey is available through September 27 at 11:45 p.m. The board said the results will be compiled and used to develop a candidate profile, which will be shared at an upcoming meeting.
"The selection of a superintendent is one of the most significant responsibilities of the Board of Education," the board said in a statement. "We invite and strongly encourage all stakeholders to participate in this process."
The next superintendent will take office on July 1, 2026.
