SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The superintendent of Springfield schools announced Monday night that she is retiring.

Jennifer Gill has served as the superintendent for District 186 for the last 12 years and has been in education for 35 years.

Gill told her Board of Education that she has elected to shift her focus to her family. 

"There's a time when you look at what you've got in your family, and I think you all know I became a grandma last week, and I'm very excited about that and a lot of things ahead for me," Gill said.
