URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The University of Illinois Board of Trustees approved an expansion of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine Thursday to establish four new departments.
The university said the expansion will sharpen the college of medicine's focus on specific areas of medicine and enhance the college's interdisciplinary collaboration.
The new departments will be obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, family medicine, and internal medicine. They will be within the college of medicine's department of clinical sciences.
"The Carle Illinois College of Medicine is training the next generation of physicians at the intersection of engineering, science and medicine, and these new departments sharpen our focus in areas where Illinoisans most need outstanding care," U of I System President Tim Killeen said. "It's a meaningful step forward for the college and for the communities we serve."
Each department will be comprised of faculty members who facilitate specialized education, clinical care and research initiatives.
