URBANA, Ill. (WAND) – High school students are now voicing concerns over their cafeteria foods.

Urbana High School is now in trouble with the public health department, after a recent inspection that found nine violations.

"I'm very unsure and a bit uneasy..." says junior, Angel Vargas. "I'm kind of wondering what I'm stuffing in my mouth every day of the week."

Vargas isn't the only one worried about the food being served during lunch.

"It's just so disgusting!" added senior, Kierra Moten.

The inspection found multiple problems with food temperatures not meeting correct levels. The Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department also found deli meats left open longer than they safely can be, as well as condiments left out that needed to be refrigerated.

The inspection, also noted, that the salad bar is condemned for use.

For some of these students, a school lunch is critical to them getting a full meal in the day. "Some of these kids actually only come here to eat, so it really affects them the most! I just I just feel so horrible," Moten said.

Urbana School District #116 did share a statement, saying "USD116 contracts out our Food Service to Quest Food Management. Quest worked with the inspector on the day of the inspection to implement necessary corrections that could be done that day. Quest has also put a timeline in place for addressing any other issues."

We also reached out to Quest, and they replied sharing, "We are closely partnering with District 116 to ensure a quick and sustained resolution to issues noted in the recent health department inspections. We will be working with an independent third-party vendor to conduct frequent safety and operational audits and are conducting a comprehensive re-training for all team members."

A follow-up inspection will be completed within days.
