PARIS, Ill. (WAND) — The Paris Union School District has moved the start date for some of its schools due to delays getting the HVAC systems operational.
In a notice to District 95 families, Superintendent of Schools Mary Morgan Ryan said the first half day of school will be delayed until Friday, August 21. Paris High School students will not be affected, starting as planned on August 12.
District 95 said during final preparation and facility checks, staff identified "a few adjustments needed" to ensure its geothermal HVAC systems are fully operational.
Ryan said the additional time will allow the district's facilities team to thoroughly check each area and make needed adjustments to ensure every classroom and common area is prepared and ready for students and staff when they return.
"We know that schedule changes create childcare and logistical challenges for families, and we did not make this decision lightly," Ryan said. "However, welcoming our school community back into an environment that is thoroughly vetted, clean, and safe is a standard we will not compromise on."
The date changes are as follows:
- Open House: Thursday, August 20
- New first half day of school: Friday, August 21
- New first full day of school: Monday, August 24
- Students that attend Paris High School will start as planned on August 12.
"Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and support as we complete this critical work," Ryan said. "We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back on August 21 for a healthy, successful school year."
