SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield school board unanimously approved a contract for its new superintendent Monday night.
Dr. Terrance Jordan will take over the position on July 1, earning $230,000 annually.
Jordan is currently serving as an assistant superintendent and has been part of the district since 2003.
He will face challenges right away.
District 186 leaders also announced Monday that they will outline a plan to get out of a $10 million budget deficit.
The full list of proposed cuts will come in March, and then must be approved by the board.
Current Superintendent Jennifer Gill said cuts were already made this year, but more drastic cuts must be made to balance the budget.
