SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The University of Illinois Springfield delegation received the Outstanding Delegation award at the 2025 National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in New York City.

This award recognizes the top 20 percent of participating delegations based on criteria such as engagement, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Model UN helps students develop essential skills like research, public speaking, and negotiation.

Melody Colonel, a major in political science and business administration from Chester, Illinois, received two individual accolades in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe committee.

Additionally, Jacob Laurenzana of Sherman, Illinois, served as the chair of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
