LINCOLN, Ill. (WAND) - Residents in Lincoln may notice an increased presence of emergency personnel around Lincoln Junior High School on Friday morning — but there’s no need for concern.

It’s all part of a planned training exercise aimed at improving response to large-scale public safety incidents.

From 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Lincoln Police Department, Lincoln Fire Department, Logan County Sheriff's Office, Logan County Paramedics Association, and other local first responders will join Lincoln District 27 Schools for a scenario-based training drill.

Lincoln PD ensures that residents shouldn't be alarmed and that the exercise will simulate an emergency situation in a school setting to help prepare emergency services and school staff for real-life crises.

Police said traffic may be interrupted in the 200 Block of Broadway Street, due to this training exercise.
