Firefighters respond to fire

BETHANY, Ill. (WAND) - A family was displaced after a large fire in Bethany Friday night.

Bethany Fire was called out for a house fire with vehicles involved within the Village limits at 11 p.m.

Sullivan Fire was called out as Auto-Aid to provide manpower and a ladder truck. Crews arrived to find heavy fire coming from the home. All residents had made it out safely.

A 2nd alarm was requested for additional resources and manpower. Crews immediately initiated a defensive attack as there was no way to enter the residence due how strong the fire was. Thousands of gallons of water were pumped on the fire to knock it down to where crews could progress further into the house to continue extinguishing it.

Additional resources were needed, and Incident Command requested a 3rd Alarm be struck for more manpower.

The last Bethany unit cleared the scene at 2:26 a.m.

In all, 20 different agencies responded to help.

Bethany Fire Chief Jennings said, "We say this every fire, but we are very grateful for the relationship we have with our neighbors to be able to bring so many resources and experience to assist on someone's worst day. As Incident Command, there is no better feeling during these crucial moments than to see dedicated firefighters from around the area walk up and ask, 'What do you need?' and then they go and 'Work the Problem.'"
