SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Members of the Sonya Massey Commission met in Springfield Monday and were joined by former members of the Ferguson Commission.

The group discussed what the former Ferguson Commission members learned over the last decade since its founding in 2014.

Former Managing Director for the Ferguson Commission, Bethany Johnson-Javois, shared her story on the cost of being a voice of change in her community. 

"The nightmares are real, the optimism that people try to have you hold, and yet, everything is on the line," Johnson-Javois said.  

The Massey Commission will meet again in September.
