CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Firefighters responded to a fire in an abandoned apartment building in Champaign Saturday morning.
The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a condemned apartment building just before 10:30 a.m. April 11 in the 300 block of S. Country Fair Drive.
Firefighters at the scene found smoke and flames coming from a lower-level apartment of the three-story building. They had worked their way through the building first to ensure it was empty, moving outside for their safety.
Champaign Fire Chief Tyler Funk told WAND News that Springfield Avenue and Country Fair Dr. were closed for several hours while the fire was put under control.
CFD said no firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
