Nokomis, Ill (WAND) – A rare vintage John Deere tractor is headed to auction in central Illinois.
“It’s a feel good story,” said Kurt Aumann of Aumann Auctions in Nokomis. It’s also a one-of-a-kind find coming to the auction market for the first time.
The green Deere tractor has been in storage in Christian County. It is a 1928 John Deere GP tractor. The serial number on the tractor, 200211, is the tip-off to its historical significance. The first cultivating tractor to roll off the Deere assembly line in Moline, Illinois.
“This is the serial number plate which signifies it as the first John Deere row crop tractor,” Aumann told WANDs Doug Wolfe while pointing to the serial number. “200211 which is listed in every John Deere reference book as the very first GP John Deere.” Aumann believes the serial number should add tens of thousands of dollars to the value of the tractor.
The tractor is being donated to raise money for the Vision Way Christian School in Taylorville. The owner did not realize he owned the first production tractor but has decided to make the donation just the same.
The 1928 tractor is in running condition. Brent Adkins, of Aumann Auctions, got it running for the first time in about 15 years.
The auction is scheduled for 10am October 27th at Aumann Auctions in Nokomis at 20114 Illinois Route-16.
