CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) – A former AAU coach has admitted to sexually assaulting girls.
In a Tuesday hearing, 53-year-old Barry Wolfe entered a guilty plea to four sexual assault counts. It happened with two basketball players who were part of the Central Illinois Storm Elite AAU team.
Investigators accused Wolfe of sexually assaulting three total people at the age of 17 or younger. In one case, police say he assaulted a player at her house when her parents were gone between March 2013 and Sept. 2015. They say he told her a future in college and basketball could be in trouble if she didn’t do what he wanted. Wolfe faced 30 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and another 12 for criminal sexual assault in that case.
Wolfe was also accused of sexually assaulting another girl between Feb. 2014 and Sept. 2015.
That AAU program disbanded after the sexual assault accusations surfaced.
Wolfe is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 10. He could face up to 60 years in prison if he’s found guilty, plus as much as life on supervised release.
