DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Family and loved ones will gather Friday night to remember 12-year-old Marqueis Gray.
Gray was shot and killed Monday night.
The person accused of shooting and killing him, 20-year-old Avante Flesch, was “playing” with a gun before it happened, police say.
In an interview at police headquarters, investigators said Flesch told them he was in a house in the 1100 block of N. Main St. with Gray and his two siblings when he found a handgun. They said Flesch picked up the gun and took out the magazine before it “accidentally discharged” and hit Gray.
Flesch told officers he was scared and ran from the house.
Police took Flesch into custody at around 7:30 p.m. Monday after visiting a Southside Dr. address in Decatur. The suspect is facing an involuntary manslaughter charge. His bond is set at $100,000.
Gray's visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday night at GT Church in Decatur.
The family has requested guests wear blue clothing without any words on it.
