MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) - Family and friends gathered to mourn the life of a 10-year-old boy who was killed in an ATV sledding accident in Mt. Zion.Â
Jack D. Brinkoetter was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital in Decatur January 5. According to the Macon County Sheriff's Office, he and another 10-year-old boy were being towed in an inner tube behind an ATV near Mt. Zion.
The man driving the ATV turned on a slope, which caused the tube to slingshot into a boulder. Both boys were taken to local hospitals.
The second boy is still in critical condition.Â
Jack's funeral was held at 11 a.m. at Passion Community Church in Decatur. The family held his visitation on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion. Interment was at South Macon Township Cemetary.Â
Memorial can be made in Jack's memory to Mt. Zion Junior Football League or Mt. Zion Youth Basketball.Â
