WHITE HEATH, Ill. (WAND) — As construction season kicks off in Illinois, Interstate 72 near White Heath will be seeing some work.
On Monday, the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin work on a project to replace the structure carrying Old 47 over Interstate 72 near White Heath in Piatt County.
Drivers should expect delays as the work requires the full closure of Old 47 over Interstate 72, and will reduce the interstate to one lane in either direction through November 2025.
Intermittent full nighttime closures of I – 72 also will be necessary according to IDOT.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
Drivers should also consider Scott's Law while passing through construction zones. Also known as the Move Over Law, Scott's Law requires drivers to move over and reduce their speed when approaching stationary vehicles in an emergency or construction zone.
