SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has unveiled a new online dashboard providing extensive data on violent deaths and firearm-related injuries across the state.

The dashboard is divided into two parts—Illinois Firearm Injury Rates and Illinois Violent Death. According to IDPH, it offers county-level insights into incident types, weapon use, and victim demographics.
"This gives us information and the clearest picture yet of where these incidents are happening and how to appropriately target the right resources for prevention and intervention efforts," said IDPH Director Dr. Sameer Vohra.
The initiative aims to inform data-driven prevention and intervention strategies to combat violent deaths and firearm injuries in Illinois.
Dr. Vohra said firearm violence is a public health crisis and requires public health solutions.
The dashboard aggregates data from two CDC-funded public health surveillance systems. Those include, the Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS), managed by Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, which provides detailed violent death data dating back to 2015.
The Joyce Foundation funded the dashboard’s development. Understory Consulting designed the platform.
