Springfield, Ill. (WAND)- Illinois National Guard troops are in Springfield at the State Capitol building, Old State Capitol, and the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum.
Yesterday, the troops were on standby.
Roads around the capitol are blocked off for safety along with several checkpoints.
Major General Rich Neely said the guard will be there as long as they are needed.
The National Guard members are there to help local law enforcement.
Windows have also been boarded up at the State Capitol building.
WAND crews did see one protestor but the capitol has remained calm.
This is all in preparation for protests ahead of the 59th Presidential Inauguration.
Governor JB Pritzker has activated 200 Illinois National Guard members to Washington D.C.
