DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur Moves microtransit service program is offering a free ride promotion for their official launch.

After being delayed almost one month, the city of Decatur announced the service will officially launch on Monday, September 8.

To celebrate the launch, riders can use the promo code "FREE5" in the Decatur Moves app for five free rides within Macon County. The promotion will run from September 8 through October 8.

The city says the program is meant to be an affordable and efficient form of transportation. The app lets people book trips and matches them with others heading in the same direction. Vans are fully accessible and equipped to serve any riders.

"This is truly a ride-share service designed for all walks of life," said Lacie Elzy, the director of economic and community development for the city of Decatur. "It's an extension of our fixed-route bus service, offering flexibility and convenience to make transportation accessible to everyone in Macon County."

More information can be found on the city of Decatur's website.
