UPDATE: The boil order was lifted for all affected residents just after 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11.

HARRISTOWN, Ill. (WAND) - Parts of Harristown were under a boil water advisory issued on Sunday, August 9, according to Village Mayor Misty Peters. 

Peters said in an email to WAND News the boil order was due to a water main break.

The impacted areas included:

  • All residents of Indus Drive
  • All residents east of Rt. 36
  • West Main Street east of Rt. 36
  • Gravel Pit Road
  • Westway Drive
  • Anchor Road
  • Wyan Street
  • Wyckles Road

State health officials encourage residents to bring pots of water to a boil for 3 to 5 minutes before using. During boil orders, you should not use tap water to brush teeth, cook, or make infant formula. 

Harristown is just west of Decatur in Macon County. It has a population of approximately 1,300 people, according to the most recent census data.
