CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Champaign's DMV will be turned into Illinois' fifth "DMV+" facility over the summer, according to the Illinois Secretary of State's office.
The upgrade should reduce wait times and increase the location's efficiency.
It will include specialized services from its business, index, administrative hearings and personnel departments that would otherwise require an in-person visit to a Secretary of State's office either in downtown Chicago or Springfield.
It will also have a "One-Stop-Shop" design that combines both driver's and vehicle services. Employees will be cross-trained to accommodate any type of customer need.
Construction is set to begin this weekend and will continue until early August. The DMV will remain open, but says customers may want to use its online services until renovations are complete.
