CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Champaign community came together on Saturday to protest against recent Medicaid and health care funding cuts.
Care workers with SEIU Healthcare were joined by local politicians and dozens of Champaign residents at Hessel Park to protest President Donald Trump's new tax law.
Jenny Smith, a home care provider, said she is advocating for her clients because this law would have disastrous effects on the people she cares for.
"Without these services, clients would have to go into a facility, and even though some of them are not on Medicaid, these programs are Medicaid funded," she said. "If there are cuts there may be cuts to these programs."
The SEIU Union said they will continue advocating to keep Medicaid and health benefits safe for their clients.
